Marlene Joyce Will (Schoon) 69, of Elgin, Illinois, died February 16, 2020 at her home in Elgin.

Marlene was a life-long resident of Elgin. She was born on August 19th, 1950 to Arthur H. and Ruby M. (Wagner) Schoon. She married and was preceded in death by Roy R. Will Jr. (Rich), also a life-long resident of Elgin, on September 11th, 1971. Together, they raised 2 children, Jason and Melinda.
Marlene was a graduate of Larkin High School, class of 1968. She was a proud member of the Song of Hiawatha Pageant in Elgin, a diehard Beatles fan, and loved to spend time with her dog Bowie and tending to her garden.
Marlene was a woman who, throughout her entire life, cared for others more than herself. She provided safety, warmth, happiness, and joy to whoever she touched. She was the epitome of pure unconditional love. She raised two children, was a loving daughter, sister, wife, aunt, grandmother, and friend. But most of all she was an inspiration. She was faced with and stood toe to toe with a devastating cancer diagnosis in 2016. Something this beautiful beacon of light never deserved. But she accepted it with grace and dignity. Through her fight she showed what it meant to have true strength. To look life's challenges in the eye and face them head on. She is and will always be our hero, our friend, our guide, and now our guardian angel.
Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Ruby and is survived by her children Jason P. (Shaun Mitchell); and Melinda L. (Arlana Jones), 3 grandchildren (Bryanna, Aiden, and Arthur), and 1 older sister Virgene (Lonn Abbott), as well as 7 beloved nieces and nephews.
Plans are to have a private burial later in the Spring.

Memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2020 from 4-8 PM in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. 847-741-8800 or www.lairdfamilyfuneralservices.com.
