Amelda C. Mikottis, 86, of Elgin passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, May 18, 2018.
Devoted wife to the late John J. Mikottis for more than 60 years. Loving mother of Terese (Charles) Zeal of Roscoe, Kay (William) Hackl of Hoffman Estates, Michael (Mary Jo) of Elmhurst, Steven (Linda) of Hinsdale, Karyn (Mark) Teolis of Noblesville, IN, Susan (Thomas) Jensen of Crystal Lake, and Kevin (Lisa) of South Elgin. Proud grandmother of Andrew (Wei) Zeal, Gregory (Natalie) Hackl, Allison Zeal, Elisabeth (Brian) Breckley, Aaron (Rachel) Mikottis, Roma Jensen, Tom Jensen, Lucy Jensen, Collin Mikottis, Noah Mikottis, Kayla Mikottis, and John Teolis. She delighted in her great-grandchildren Will and Grant.
She is survived and remembered by her children and their families, her dear sister Rosemary Leichtnam, nieces and nephews along with a very large extended family, as well as many friends. She will also be missed by the residents and staff of The Greens of Elgin, her residence for the last several years. Preceding her in death were her husband John, in 2012; her parents James and Esther (Waldron) Noonan; brothers James, John, Peter, Edward, and Charles; and sisters Alyce Marie, Margaret, and Sister Mary Shaun (Winifred). A resident of Elgin since 1988, she had been an active member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, and the parish Fellowship Club. Her volunteer work included serving her church community as a Eucharistic Minster, an Usher, and as a member of the Funeral Luncheons ministry; and serving the local community as a long-time Volunteer at Presence St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin. She was known for encouraging the educational pursuits of her children and grandchildren, as an excellent cook and accomplished seamstress, and for her affinity for gardening and birdwatching. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, May 24 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Elgin with Rev. Richard Rosinski presiding. Burial will be in Plato Center Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 23 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin and on Thursday morning in the church from 9:30 A.M. until the time of mass.
