Sterling E. “Stu” Ainsworth
Stu Ainsworth, 85 of St. Charles, passed away on May 18, 2018. Born on June 30, 1932, in a small farm house in Fort Dodge Iowa. He graduated from Iowa State. He was a Sales Manager for Abbott Laboratory’s Agricultural Division for more than 2 decades. Prior to retirement, he was active as a Scout Master for Troop 5. It is here where he helped shape many young lives. The Scouts recognized his several accomplishments with awarding him the Silver Beaver Award. He then went on to working with the Explorer Post 5 in Elgin. Upon retirement his passion for helping others continued with working with the St. Charles Kiwanis Club. His true passion lies with the Performing Arts of the Fox Valley. He was on the board for the Elgin Symphony, Elgin Youth Symphony, and the Master Chorale. His pride and joy was for his name sake “The Sterling Brass Quintet” which he founded and supported since 2007. His multiple contributions to the Arts earned him the prestigious award of “Fox Valley Hall of Fame” celebrated on April 20, 2018. Other passions for Stu included: gardening and travel domestically and abroad. He was the Organist for St. Joseph’s Parish in Elgin for many years. Surviving members are his 3 sisters - Nancy Welker, Elaine (Joesph) Lawler, and Suzanne Huen. His 4 sons, Steven (Corey), Michael (Beverly), Thomas (Allison), & William (Julie), Grandchildren Kerri, Sam, Stephanie, and Brian. He was preceded in death by his wife Tammy whom he married on June 18, 1955, his parents, Sterling and Mary, and brother Randall. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 24, 2018 at Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State Street, Elgin Il from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. Memorial mass will be private.
