Dick was born on January 26, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Peter and Irene (Forsberg) Zaranto. He joined the Navy in 1946 at the end of World War II. Following his two-year term, he came home and married the woman he grew up with, Marilyn Ratajczak, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Chicago on April 18, 1948. Dick was first employed by W.A. Brown Mfg. Co. in Chicago, who then, in 1951, asked him to move with the company to Woodstock, Illinois where he became plant manager. He stayed on for 25 years until the company was sold. He then got his real estate license and worked for Byrnes Bros. Realty, winning many awards for sales, and lastly worked for 15 years as a rural carrier for the Woodstock Post Office before finally retiring in 1970.

Dick loved fishing and golfing, and was a great billiards player. He loved taking his family on camping trips. He was a member of the Woodstock Moose Lodge, serving as governor for two terms, and was active in his community. He was a loving husband, and wonderful father impressing sound values in the lives of his children.

Dick is survived by his wife Marilyn, and their four children: Kathleen (Jim) Lienlokken, Patricia Kyle, Mary (Rick Morreale) Zaranto, and Joseph Zaranto; grandchildren Brian, Thad, Jeremy, Gwenne, Marjorie, James, Nikki, and Jimmy; &  26 great-grandchildren.
