 Marilyn J. Steffen, 92, of Elgin passed from time into Eternal Life with Jesus her Savior on Thursday, March 8 at Highland Oaks, Elgin. She was born February 19, 1926 in Elgin to Per Algot and Emma Natalie (Johnson) Pierson. Her parents both immigrated from Sweden in the early 1900’s. She attended Elgin schools and was a graduate of Elgin High School, Class of 1944. She then attended Sherman Hospital School of Nursing graduating in 1947. She had been a resident of Elgin for all of her life except for 7 years when she and Nathan lived in Mauston, WI. She answered God’s call unto repentance and faith and was baptized in her faith on March 13, 1949 at the Apostolic Christian Church, Elgin. She was united in marriage to Nathan Steffen on June 18, 1950. Marilyn’s kind, gentle loving spirit will be deeply missed by her family and by all who knew her. She was a faithful support to her husband Nathan’s ministry, to the church and to others. Special appreciation and thanks to the staff at Highland Oaks for the loving care they gave her.
Surviving are her husband of 67 years, and the children they were blessed with, Philip (Mona) Steffen, Rachel (Jim) Stall, Mark (Barb) Steffen, Sarah (Ralph) Hoppe, Rebecca (Jim) Miller, Mary Steffen, David (Linda) Steffen and Deborah (Greg) Kellenberger, her daughter in law, Natalie Steffen, 27 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Matthew Steffen, 2 sisters, Astrid (George) Carlson and Edith (George) Reber and a brother, Earl (Hazel) Pierson.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, March 12 at the Apostolic Christian Church 2740 W. Highland Ave., Elgin with the church in charge of services. Burial will follow at the Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Apostolic Christian Fellowship Hall 2760 W. Highland Ave. and Monday in the church from 9:00 AM until the time of the services. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given the Apostolic Christian Highland Oaks or the charity of one’s choice.
