David Charles Covey, 76, of Huntley passed away on Sunday February 18, 2018. He was born in Elgin on May 20, 1941, the son of Emerson Taft “Mike” Covey and Salvia Hanson (Norlander). He is survived by his daughters, Christine Binkley (Terrence) of South Elgin and Sara Covey of Gunnison, Colorado, and a beloved grandson, Mirko Sarovic, and his sisters Nan Jean Bryant (Richard) of Littleton, Colorado and Judith Fisher of Elgin. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Rita (Benson) Covey.
He was a graduate of Elgin High School class of 59’ and earned degrees in Education and Administration from the University of Illinois and the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Elgin, The Retired Teachers Association and a board member and treasurer of The Elgin Sports Hall of Fame. He had a long time career with School District U-46, starting at Abbott Middle School as a math teacher, then Tefft Junior High School as an Assistant Principal, then ending his career as the Principal of Kimball Middle School. A Visitation will be held at Wait Ross Allanson Funeral & Cremation Services Chapel, 51 Center St., Elgin on Friday March 9, 2018 from 4pm-8pm.
A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held at The First United Methodist Church, 216 E. Highland Avenue, Elgin on Saturday March 10, 2018 with a visitiation from 9:30am-10:30am and services to follow with Pastor Richard Carlson officiating.
