Dorothy Sechrist Kramer, born on February 20, 1919 passed peacefully on September 17, 2017. Dorothy lived her 98 plus years with a commitment to her family, her faith and her community. Her sense of humor, her love of life’s journey with its peaks and valleys served as an inspiration to her children, her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dorothy participated as an active member and leader of several garden clubs in Elgin, as president of the Garden Clubs of Illinois and a long-serving officer of the National Garden Clubs, building lasting and wonderful friendships with others who shared her love of flower arranging, conservation and the beautification of the environment. She was commemorated with a statue in front of the Gail Borden Library as the Butterfly Lady for her many contributions to the beautification and preservation of the environment in Elgin. Additionally, she was an active member of the Elgin Women’s Club, serving in the role of President as well as in various committee work. Her contributions to her community served to guide her children as they grew and built lives of their own, but it was her unwavering love of her first and best job – that of mother and wife – that has served as a model for her family who were blessed to have her in their hearts and lives until the end. Her parents, her brother William Sechrist and her husband, Robert B. Kramer, preceded her in death. Her survivors include her son Robert S. Kramer (Connie Bohlin), Ann Kramer Riebock (Ronald) four grandchildren, Alison Giese (Chris), Jessica Hoffmann (Mark), Andy Kramer (LeAnn) and Alexis Duffy (Travis) and nine great grandchildren, Meredith, Nate, Addie, Drew, Jordan, Charlotte, Jacquelyn, Natalie and Olivia. Burial will be private. Contributions can be made to the Gail Borden Public Library District in the care of Joy Schifer. Memorials will benefit the children and youth sections of the library.
